How Rental Contracts Work in Egypt
The basics of what a residential rental contract in Egypt typically covers, and the questions worth asking before you sign.

Fixed-term contracts are the norm
Most residential rentals in Egypt are let on a fixed-term contract — commonly one year, sometimes longer for unfurnished long-term lets. The contract should state the exact start and end date, the rent amount, the currency, and how and when payment is expected (monthly, quarterly, or in some cases annually up front).
Renewal terms are worth reading closely: some contracts renew automatically unless either party gives notice, others simply expire and require a fresh agreement. Know which kind you're signing.
The security deposit
A security deposit — typically equivalent to one or more months' rent — is standard, held against damage or unpaid utility bills at the end of the tenancy. Get the amount, and the conditions for any deduction, written explicitly into the contract rather than left to a verbal understanding.
What a consultant actually helps with here
None of this is complicated once someone's walked you through it once, but it's easy to miss a detail on your first rental in a new city or a new country. A MYEGPROP consultant can review what's being proposed with you before you sign, and flag anything that's unusually worded or missing.
